Abstract about GenAI and Higher Education by Professor Robin Banerjee
In the panel discussion, I would be keen to explore the human psychological response to AI in higher education. At a time of significant disruption and change arising from the new AI technologies, the initial (and still ongoing) response among many revolved around how to safeguard existing educational practices against the unethical use of AI. That is now being combined with deeper thinking about what skills and competencies we could be looking to cultivate, not only among our students but also for ourselves!
I will be happy to share and explore some of the thinking around emerging principles for guiding our engagement with AI in HE, and also consider how these may play out in the context of promoting employability and career readiness in the next quarter of the 21st century. We know that many are already implicitly practising a diverse set of competencies when interacting with AI. I would like to explore with the panel how this can be developed into a more explicit, purposeful, and relational approach to the integration of AI in HE.
